My soul waits in silence for God only…
Psalm 62:1 NASB
What does it mean to “wait in silence”?
Is it something like the space between my question and this one?
Is it like listening to John Cage’s piano piece titled 4’3″?
Or like what I am attempting to express in this poem?
And in this one?
Or is it as subtle as the psalmist’s inspired insertion in Psalm 62:5?
My soul,
Could it be that simple?
My soul, wait in silence for God only…
An almost-breathless pause before my suffocating soul inhales God’s saving hope?
Could it be only that?
Or else?
Or else, my soul be silenced.
Or else, my soul, be silenced.
